Notts County Ladies under 16s kicked off their first game of the new year with a new kit kindly sponsored by Broadoake of Bolsover, Chesterfield who manufacturer UPVC windows, doors and Conservatories. The girl’s proudly wearing their new black and white kit: Back L to R: Jaime Cliiford, Sarah Perkins, Faye Wheatley, Polly Lees Collier, Kelsea Marriott, Jade Henderson, Ellie Betteridge and Leia Ward. Front L to R: Emily George, Sylvie Aske, Amy Townsend, Abbie Truman, Hannah Askew, Sara Duffield and Megan Weston. The girl’s continued their remarkable season with a 5-2 win at home to mid table Arnold Yellow. On 18 minutes Sarah Duffield twisted and turned the ball into the Arnold box and her cross bobbled out to the edge of the box for Faye Wheatley to thump the ball into the bottom corner 1-0. Arnold equalised on the half hour mark as the black and white army failed to make a tackle and allowed the ball to be ran almost the entire length of the pitch 1-1. County replied when Hannah Askew on the back post received the ball from a Abbie Truman corner and squeezed the ball under the keeper 2-1. The second period saw the home side play much better as they began to pass and be more creative in the attacking third. They soon increased their lead when Ellie Betteridge’s shot rebounded off the woodwork for Sara Duffield to side foot the ball into the bottom corner 3-1. The fourth came when Sarah lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box 4-1. County’s fifth started from mid-field when Megan Weston’s diagonal forward pass into Kelsea Marriott on the left flank to step inside open up her body to place the ball into the far top corner 5-1. In the dying minutes Arnold got a consolation with a well taken goal giving stand in keeper no chance 5-2. Player of the match was awarded to centre back Amy Townsend who didn’t put a foot wrong and was composed on the ball looking to always play the ball out. The girl’s next game is against Gedling in the quarter finals of the league cup and the following week its the Notts FA Shield semi-final against Nottingham Forest.
