It’s a funny old game as despite having good possession for the majority of the game and creating numerous chances, Notts County Ladies DFC still lost 3-2 to the visitors of Gedling Town Ladies FC in their first outing of the new season in the regional Premier League. County were the first to find the back of the net when Captain Jasmin Bear coolly converted from the spot (1-0). In spite of constant pressure and a display of creativity in front of the goal, the Magpies struggled to convert, faced with good keeping and, at times, poor finishing. In the final minute of the 1st half, Gedling hit on the counter and found the equaliser with a good finish (1-1). Gedling took the lead early in the 2nd period (1-2) but County responded shortly after when April Bingham cut inside and smashed the ball into the far top corner (2-2). County looked to be the team most likely to find the winner until the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors to the amazement of the home side, who felt the foul had been committed by the opposition. Gedling converted the penalty (2-3) to take all 3 points whilst County felt cheated. The players will dust themselves down and march onto their next game away to Ellistown WFC. Goals from Jasmin Bear and April Bingham. Player of the Match awarded to Robyn Henton. Team: Allcock, Bear, Harvey, Bradshaw, Evans, Bingham, Henton, Horton, Steeples, Fisher, Walters. Subs: Mohammed, Don.
