The newly formed Notts County Under 16 side had a baptism of fire as they welcomed Retford at home to Newstead Recreation ground. The Magpies who were without a goalkeeper and with only 10 players available for their first game of the season had an uphill challenge before a ball was kicked. The girls in black and white had good spells but unfortunately this was not enough as Retford went on a shooting frenzy. County failed to press the ball well enough, giving the opposition too much time. The second period was an improvement, as they finally began to compete and believe in themselves. The first of the two County goals came from a well taken goal from Jade Henderson and the second from Tia Martinazzoli. Good work rate from Renée Freeman in a wide midfield position and Leigh Worsdale in the back four along with Tamara Miles driving the ball forward and looking to create chances. The team are away next week to Riverside and with a full team they will be looking to improve. Goals from Jade Henderson, Tia Martinazzoli. Player of the match awarded to Renée Freeman.
