Notts County’s Under 18’s travelled away to Cosby United to kick start their new season. On a blistering sunny afternoon and with an air show to contend with, the visiting team got off to a flyer. Within 2 minutes, Courtney Csomor and Ellie Betteridge combining together displayed a well worked move down the left flank, with Courtney finishing off as she cut inside to slot the ball into the far corner (0-1). The young magpies continued to create many goal scoring chances. However, shots at the keeper and sometimes too many passes in front of goal denied them time and time again. It was on the 23rd minute when they finally doubled their lead. Striker Sara Duffield received a cross ball in front of goal and hit a sweet half volley into the top netting (0-2). Fifteen minutes later, County increased their lead to 3 when Captain Ellie Betteridge in front of goal side footed the ball neatly into the top corner (0-3). Just before the break, Cosby found the net with a well taken header form a corner (1-3).The second half was a little flat although Cosby worked hard to raise their tempo which, at times, caused the visitors a few problems. Neither team could find another goal and the Notts County girls were very happy to go away with a good 3 points in their first game of the season. Good debuts from Elizabeth Williams, Jena Lliffe, Emily Thorne, Courtney Csomor, Molly Clifford and Natalie Archer. Goals from Courtney Csomor, Sara Duffield, Ellie Betteridge. Player of the match awarded to Ellie Betteridge.
