Notts County Under 18’s made a positive start at home against Stanton Ilkeston when Emily Thorne’s shot on goal was well saved. The Magpies were without their 1st choice keeper and a couple of key players were missing due to injury and work commitments. This meant that a number of players had to step up and be counted. Molly Clifford took up the gloves and Elizabeth Williams played high up behind the striker. On 23 minutes, Notts were awarded a free kick in their own half, Sylvie Aske launched a diagonal ball over the top for Emily to bring the ball down and smashed the ball into the far bottom corner (1-0). The home side doubled their lead when Faye Wheatley played in Courtney Csomor who knocked the ball round the advancing keeper into the far bottom corner (2-0). In the final minute before the break, the visitors found the back of the net with a through ball down the centre leaving a player one on one with the keeper (2-1). The girls from Notts County came out in the second period and within 5 minutes found the back of the net when Courtney pressed the ball high up the pitch to win the ball round 2 defenders to cut inside and bury the ball into the near bottom corner (3-1). Ilkeston were not finished though and from a poorly defended corner, the visitors found the back of the net with a strike into the top corner (3-2) setting up a nervous final 10 minutes.
