The 10 players of Notts County Ladies DFC Under 16’s got their first victory of the new season when Southwell visited Newstead Recreation Ground. From the off the girls in black and white stamped their authority on the game and went immediately on the attack. They found the back of the net just 6 minutes into the game when Jade Henderson turned in a Kelsea Marriott corner (1-0). Six minutes later, from deep in their own half, Kelsea’s long throw found Jade who played a square ball into Kate Robinson. Kate then set the ball backward for Hannah Askew who played a diagonal forward ball into the path of Renée Freeman who finally tucked the ball into the near post (2-0). The third County goal came from a Kelsea cross to the far post for Renée who timed her run to perfection and tapped the ball home (3-0). Just before the break, the Magpies found the back of the net once again when Hannah played the ball back to Jade on the edge of the box. Jade then smashed the ball into the far top corner (4-0). The second period continued in the same way as the first period had ended. Kelsea started the goal fest from a wide area hitting a long range shot looping into the far corner (5-0). Kelsea worked her socks off and pressed high. She won the ball from a goal kick, took a touch out of her feet and lobbed the keeper (6-0). County were in seven heaven when Jade came provider with a square ball into the feet of Hannah who drilled the ball into the net from the edge of the penalty area (7-0). Southwell got a much deserved consolation goal as they continued to battle. A ball down the left flank was moved inside to an unmarked Southwell player who then struck the ball sweetly, giving stand-in keeper Emily George no chance (7-1). There was a long break in play when the Southwell keeper fell awkwardly and had to leave the field of play. On the re-start, Kelsea and Hannah once again played neat football, released Kate who ran the ball forward and placed the ball with a delightful touch passed the stand-in Southwell keeper (8-1). Terrific performance girls, well done! Goalscorers: Kelsea Marriott (2), Jade Henderson (2), Renée Freeman (2), Hannah Askew, Katie Robinson. Player of the match awarded to Kelsea Marriott.
