The girls of Notts County just keep on improving and this week they didn’t disappoint with an emphatic victory over AFC Mansfield. For the first time this season the team fielded a full team but still without a first choice keeper and the player numbers allowed the team to play a 1-4-2-3-1 formation. It was on 9 minutes when the travelling Magpies found the back of the net starting from a delightful diagonal ball from Megan Weston into the path of striker Katie Robinson who confidently passed the ball passed the advancing keeper 0-1. Notts were off and running and they didn’t have to wait too long for the second when Kelsea Marriott’s long throw found Tia Martinazzoli who’s terrific long range shot rebounded off the keeper for Katie to steam in and head the ball back over the keeper 0-2. The 3rd goal saw Katie come provider when she headed the ball down into the path of Megan Weston who turned and hit the ball on the volley for 0-3. Good pressing high up saw Hannah Askew win the ball and play out wide to Kelsea who ran back inside to hit a thunderous shot into top corner 0-5. Kelsea got her second of the morning when her in swinging corner fell into the far bottom corner 0-6. Kelsea was involved in the 7th goal working hard down the left side playing in Leigh Worsdale who’s delightful weighted pass enabled Katie to skip round the defender and tuck the ball into the bottom corner for her hat-trick and her teams 7th. Number 8 came from a long ball from Kelsea leaving Katie to do what she does best and slotted the ball into the top corner 0-8. Katie was involved in numerous attacks this time her hard work paying off as she chased the ball down and finding Renee Freeman with a cross for Renee’s shot to rebound straight off the keeper for her to have a second go bursting the net with a furious shot 0-9. Notts went into double figures when Katie was given space and with the ball at her feet on the edge of the box she was not going to miss and hit a sweet shot for 0-10. The black and white army wrapped up their impressive display when Emily Clark on her debut converted a cross from the edge of the 6 yard box 0-11. A good confident boosting display from the girls of Notts County but huge congratulations goes to struggling AFC Mansfield who continued to battle throughout and created a number of chances of their own and were dignified and sporting in defeat well done.
