Notts County under 9s took to a cloudy and foggy Church Lane and with a bare bones team of only 5 players! The sporting Westbridgford side did match County on the pitch but effectively has 2 sides with 10 players. The usual midfield of Elena Gale and Phoebe -Wardle-Collins had to play rear guard leaving Lucia Wardle and new girl Kayleigh Street who was playing her first game for the under 9s to play up field. Two quick goals left Notts County girls needing to get out of the starting blocks, which they did as player of the match Phoebe has her usual burst of pace up field leaving herself time to neatly place her goal well. The pair fought hard in defence seeing Elena change from her usual quick passing high tempo game to a physical battling defensive roll which she took to really well. Alice Thompson's ball handling skill's was spot on as she plucked the balls away from their strikers feet as well as speeding up her goal kicking which was reaching Kayleigh who settled in well for her first game. With Phoebe taking a hard knock to her knee she battled on as County legs tired as Westbridgford rolled players on and off throughout the game. Lucia’s fine effort late on is proof she soon to score as she has great positioning again. County’s heads never dropped and kept pushing for another goal right up until full time. At the end the Westbridgford manager came over and said to our girls "that was one of the best battling team spirits I’d seen and you should be really proud of yourselves" which goes to show we can give anyone a game regardless of numbers. Well done County u9s, really proud of you all.

The u9s who had a skeleton squad for Sundays  game that lined up against the opposition of Woodlands from Derby who for the 2nd time fielded a full team.  As the game kicked off the County girl’s weren't going to let this phase them.  A lively start saw efforts go close by Phoebe-Wardle-Collins and Jodi James as they had a couple of range finders and it was County who struck first with Jodi who had a mazey run down the left carrying it into the box before hammering it under the keeper for Phoebe to tap in. Elena Gale (player of the match) was again delivering  great corners which were finding her team mates in the box and as half time drew near Alice Thompson made 2 close range saves to keep the scores level at 1-1. The half time talk was just to keep up the tempo and effort and not to change the game plan. So as the second half got underway the girls had stoked up the fire in their bellies and it was business as usual with Chelsea  Musgrove who played for 40mins with a big smile on her face showing again that she is reading the game well as she marked Woodlands forwards every move. Midway through the second half a quick counter attack sent the Magpies mid-field off up the pitch to find (captain) Lucia Wardle who collected the ball turned in the box and was just wide with a cracking shot. Lucia's movement meant she was able to have several shots at goal today. The second goal came after a well-timed Jodi tackle who whipped the ball clear to Chelsea, she was able to spin and send pacey Elena off up field as she went clear of her markers delivered a super ball into Phoebe to finish off by neatly tucking it away in the far corner. As the girls battled on they all seemed to get a second wind and played as though there were 8 of them on the pitch! which meant they were always knocking on the door for another. Which it came with what seemed the last kick of the game as Alice's long goal kick found Phoebe on the halfway line and a quick turn of pace left the opposition playing catch up as she smacked it in for yet another hatrick!.This was a day where the girls started to believe in themselves, big smiles all round WELL DONE girls what a great team spirit you have.

Todays pre-match talk was about putting into practice what we do in training and to enjoy it. With a little re-shuffle for some of the girls, ment that
Elena Gale joined Jodi James at the rear for the first half pushing Abby Bailey (captain) up into midfield. Our girls fell behind to a 5th min goal but soon levelled through again Phoebe-wardle-Collins. Lucia Wardle was constantly on her toes as she looked for space from quick counter attacks. As the pressure grew towards half time Jodi's defensive attitude was second to none as she threw herself at every ball even taking 2 in the face! but not phased by it carried on battling. Just before half time Alice Thompson made an awsome save with her head! tipping it onto the post. As the 2nd half kicked off a change again ment Elena and Jodi pushed up into mid-field as player of the match Phoebe and Abby dropped into defence. The ever improving Chelsea Musgrove had great movement which ment she had 2 players marking her. Phoebe now in defence partnered by Abby made strong tackles which frustrated the Southwell forwards as our girls was hard to break down. With 10mins to go Elena went on one of her trademark runs as she picked up a loose ball and laid off a great pass into Jodi whos vision found Lucia lerking in the box but it was crowded out by players. The girls came off the pitch not even knowing what the final score was whicn goes to show that the result is not important at the moment. Just watching the girls try and put into practice what they do on wednesdays is what counts for now. SUPER SUPER effort girls.
