The last time these two teams met at the beginning of the season Notts County Ladies Development 1st team smashed nine past Teversal Ladies without reply. Teversal have clearly been improving and Notts County were expecting a tough encounter today at home on Coronation Park the home of Eastwood Town FC. A good start from the home side as the camped in the visitors half and the first shot coming from Courtney Walters after a square ball across the goal only for her shot to hit the keeper. On nine minutes Anna Horton received the ball in the middle of the park and ran the ball forward to set up a 1v1 with the Teversal keeper, Anna slotted the ball into the corner giving the keeper no chance 1-0. County appeared to be in control when they had the ball in the back of the net thanks to Lauren Yeomans only for it to be deemed off-side; minutes later Courtney ran the ball in from a wide angle only for her shot to go the wrong side of the upright. Teversal started to play at a high tempo and were beginning to get a foot hold on the game as they began to look dangerous and create a few chances. County waived the storm and on 44 minutes Anna Horton once again ran the ball out of defence and found Lauren Yeomans with a long range forward pass who turned and found Courtney Walters in front of goal to tuck the ball under the advancing keeper 2-0. County were not going to let Teversal back into this game as April Bingham five minutes into the second half secured the all-important third goal and the best goal of the day when she cut inside with the ball to hit a rising shot into the far top corner 3-0. County were rampant as they were setting up chance after chance and on 65 minutes April ran the ball out of county’s half into Jasmin Bear who’s cross into the far post found Lauren with her shot rebounding off the upright for Courtney to tap in 4-0. The Magpies fifth came when Robyn Henton’s defence splitting pass allowed Lauren to chase and get a foot to the ball before the advancing keeper to help it on its way into the back of the net 5-0. The game was wrapped up after some breath-taking first time passing involving half of the team for Robyn to turn and lay off a pass for Courtney to smash it home 6-0. A good solid performance and player of the match awarded to April Bingham for her tireless work and off course that wonderful goal.

A brief moment of light at the end of the tunnel after losing to Wollaton last week came when Charley MacLaren scored a great header to put Notts County senior development team 1-0 up against Newark, but then self-destruct hit. Despite a magic player of the match performance by Katrina Bloomer and better passing in the 2nd half, County were just not playing as they could. Newark came back and took the 3 points with 2 goals for a final score of 2 -1.

Notts County Ladies Development Senior 1st team welcomed Alfreton to Coronation Park the home of Eastwood Town FC for the 1st round in the East Midlands Women’s League Plate Competition. The two teams met only 2 weeks ago in a league fixture with the Magpies winning the game 1-5. With a number of players unavailable due to injuries Ellie Marriott from the reserves was called upon. Notts County was quick to pile on the pressure and had the ball in the back of the net when Lauren Yeomans headed in from the far post from an April Bingham cross which was deemed off-side. Two minutes later Lauren received the ball to feet on the edge of the 6yd box turned and fired the ball over the goal line 1-0. Another 2 minutes passed and County had the ball in the back of the net thanks to a wonderful cross again from April Bingham on the left flank for Courtney Walters to convert with a cheeky little lob over the advancing defender 2-0. County almost got another as Androulla Kokkinou played the ball out wide to Robyn Henton from the middle of the park for her to slip a ball through for Courtney’s shot to go over the bar. County’s 3rd came on 35 minutes when again Robyn’s forward pass found the feet of Courtney who played a neat one two with Lauren Yeomans to smack the ball into the top netting 3-0. A minute before the break County got their 4th and Courtney’s hat-trick when deep from defence Emma Bradshaw played a wide ball into Courtney Evans who’s forward ball found Anna Horton on the right flank to drive the ball into the feet of Courtney Walters who ran the ball into the box and hit the ball hard towards the near post with the ball spinning out of the keepers hands and into the back of the net 4-0. It required Notts to come out in the second period and dictate the tempo and play intelligently to see the game out. A number of strange refereeing decisions awarded Alfreton a free kick 20 yds out and with a melly of players in front of the keeper allowed the ball to bounce its way through into the bottom far corner 4-1. On 60 minutes Ellie Marriott made way for Jessica Wibberley. On 64 minutes Alfreton fired in a long range shot which was tipped over the bar by good keeping from Kelly Hackman. At the opposite end a ball played behind the Alfreton back four allowed the pace of April Bingham to run onto and round the keeper for what should have been number 5 only for the linesman to make a wrong call for off-side. The game was opening up and it became an end to end game as Alfreton were having good spells, on the 80th minute Alfreton doubled their tally when a long range lofted shot was watched into the back of the net 4-2. County replied and wrapped up a good win when Robyn’s defence splitting pass found Androulla with her explosive pace cut in from a wide angle onto the ball to run at the keeper and take the ball across the face of the goal to reverse pass it into the bottom corner 5-2. The player of the match was awarded to Androulla who worked her socks off and despite being knocked to the floor several times just bounced back up and got on with things. Good performances from Courtney Evans in left back who showed maturity and confidence on the ball and Anna Horton in a wide position driving the ball forward at every opportunity. A good win which secures their place into the next round. Goals: Courtney Walters 3, Lauren Yeomans 1, Androulla Kokinou 1.

Notts County Ladies Development reserves entertained top of the table Wollaton. Despite a master class display in passing the football the Magpies had nothing to show with regards to points in this league fixture. County’s goal came after great work from Jessie Knott and Rhiannon Middleton for Katrina Bloomer to fire the ball into the back of the net. The disappointment today was conceding the three goals. County battled so hard, Jade Zoe Benniston and Ellie Marriott were massive in defence along with Jade Sheppard in midfield. The second half was a demonstration of determination from player of that match Charley MacLaren and keeper Chelsea Taylor who was unlucky with the goals and proudly went home with a bruise following a kick in the face. The loss has dropped the team to third and getting second place now is the only option in the season and will require some big results.

Notts County 1st team travelled for the second week in a back to back game away to Mansfield Hosiery this time in a league fixture. County beat their opposition 3-2 last week in the FA Women’s Cup and it didn’t take long to work out that Mansfield fancied their chances and they went on the attack from the off and were the team that were showing signs that they wanted it more today. Both teams had chances with the Magpies having the best chance on 12 minutes when a long ball found Courtney Walters who slipped her marker to put in a square ball across the face of the goal for Jasmin Bear to agonisingly put it over the bar. From the goal kick Mansfield attacked down the left side and a ball played into the box was not cleared which allowed the Mansfield striker to slot the ball into the bottom corner 1-0. On 20 minutes Gemma Sinfield making her debut in defence had to leave the field of play with injury and replaced by Serena Mason. On 30 minutes Mansfield doubled their lead with a long ball over the defence for the pacey striker to run onto and smack the ball into the back of the net giving keeper Kelly Hackman no chance 2-0. The game became scrappy as County were forcing things and failing to put a number of passes together. Just before the break County got a lifeline when from a Jasmin Bear corner it was a free for all as shot after shot was blocked, the ball bobbled out to Anna Horton who played the ball back out wide to Jas who fired in a lofted shot/cross towards the back post and was helped across the line by Courtney Walters 1-2. The second half saw a different County side who camped for long periods in the home side but credit goes to Mansfield who defended well supported by good goal keeping. Mansfield nearly wrapped up the game on 75 minutes if it wasn’t for a reaction save from County’s keeper Kelly Hackman who was having a much improved performance. Time was quickly running out and it was backs to the wall for Mansfield as County were pressing high and hard for the equaliser. With 3 minutes to go Anna Horton came out wide allowing Androulla Kokkinou to slip inside which immediately paid off as Anna picking the ball up just passed the half-way line drove the ball forward and released Androulla who twisted and turned passed a number of players to fire the ball into the bottom corner 2-2. With literally a minute left County went looking for the winner and if there were more time on the clock they may have just done it but lessons need to be learned and to be more clinical in front of goal which today cost them valuable points. Player of the match awarded to defender Serena Mason. Next week the team entertain Alfreton in the League Cup.
