Notts County Ladies U12’s were back to winning ways with a bang this week, beating a brave and battling Riverside Bluebells side 8-0. Notts were ahead in the first minute when Hollie Springthorpe burst down the left before unleashing a left foot drive into the top corner. The score was soon two, when Elizabeth Harris followed the ball into the keeper and chipping the ball high into the net. Two became three when a great long ball over the top by Lisa Miller found Amy Wainwright unmarked and she coolly bought the ball under control before drilling her shot under the goalkeeper. The second half saw more Notts pressure, but Riverside still asked questions of the defence with Emily Wragby and Jaycie Smith working hard to keep the sheet clean; full backs Sharna Betteridge and Nicole Robinson were also helping to keep a solid back four - Georgia Duckworth made a smart stop with her feet when one on one with the home sides centre forward. Lucy Wright was working hard in the middle of the park, as was Erin Gale down the Notts left wing and she was unlucky not to score a goal of her own with a long range effort. Amy Wainwright scored her second, tucking home a Harris cross with her left foot. Amy’s left foot came into play again when she turned neatly in the box to prod home her hat-trick. Not to be outdone, Elizabeth Harris got a second, lobbing the keeper from 20 yards with her left foot, before completing a hat-trick of her own, finishing off some delightful interplay between Heather Briggs and Alex Mills down the Magpie’s right. Alex Mills completed the scoring, coming in at the back post to slot home an Amy Wainwright cross. 8 goals, clean sheet – result! Player of the match awarded to Amy Wainwright.

Notts County Ladies came from behind not once, not twice, but thrice to take their share of the spoils in a had fought 3-3 draw away to Woodlands White Socks. The early exchanges saw Notts mount a sustained period of pressure that failed to bear fruit and it was somewhat against the run of play that Woodlands took the lead. The Magpies almost hit back straight from the restart when Heather Briggs jinxed her way into the box before driving narrowly wide. The Black and Whites were back on level terms when Amy Wainwright wriggled free to slot the ball neatly past the diving ‘keeper. All Notts hard work was soon undone, when they were caught out by a long ball over the top that was finished with a clever chip. County found themselves unlucky to be a goal down at half-time and came out for the second half as they did the first, taking the game to the home side. In an almost carbon copy of the Woodlands second goal, Elizabeth Harris burst through the defence and placed a delightful chip over the on rushing keeper. Their joy was short lived when Woodlands took the lead for the third time. Still Notts plugged away and Amy Wainwright came to County’s rescue with a late equaliser, showing composure in a crowded area and dispatching her shot low into the net. There was still chance for County to win it, with Player of the match Alex Mills playing some threatening approach play down the left. In the end, a draw was a fair result, with the spectators treated to a very hard fought draw that neither side deserved to lose.

Whilst today’s game ended in defeat, the 3 – 1 score-line against a team Woodland Black Socks who beat us 9 – 0 on the opening game of the season, shows just how much progression Notts County Ladies U12’s have made. An icy and bobbly pitch made tough going; for both sides and Notts were unlucky to find themselves 3-0 down at half time. The second half saw Notts take the game to Woodlands, with Amy Wainwright, Lisa Miller, Nicole Robinson and Heather Briggs playing some delightful football in the middle of the park, aided by the tireless running of wide players Erin Gale and Alex Mills. Elizabeth Harris was also working wonders upfront, keeping the Black Socks defence under pressure. Special mention should go to the defence: Kaitlyn O’Dowd battled for everything at right-back, as did Sharna Betteridge and Hollie Springthorpe at left back; the central defence pairing of Emily Wragby and Player of the Match Jaycie Smith, seem to get better and better each week! In goal, Georgia Duckworth made a couple of terrific stops where a goal looked a certainty. Notts persistence finally paid off when Elizabeth Harris made room for herself in the box before firing home from 8 yards.

Back to winning ways this week as Notts County Ladies U12’s came out on top to beat a brave and battling Bingham Town side 7-0. Playing the first half into a strong headwind and up the Church Lane slope, the Magpies fought their way in front when Elizabeth Harris burst through the Bingham rear guard before crashing an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net. The locals added a second when Amy Wainwright found Alex Mills in space wide right, who still with a lot to do, hit a drive from a tight angle, which glanced the inside of the post on its way in. Mid-way through the first half the defence found itself under an increasing amount of pressure as the visitors, aided by the gusting wind, pressed forwards looking for a goal. Goalkeeper Georgia Duckworth was called upon to stop a couple of long range shots and the centre defensive pairing of Emily Wragby and Jaycie Smith was always in control when the ball went ‘over the top’. Lisa Miller was working hard in the middle of midfield, keeping Notts pushing forwards at every opportunity; Erin Gale was also having a good game in her unfamiliar position of right back linking up well with the ever lively Alex Mills. Down the left Hollie Springthorpe was leading the charge and was unlucky not to score a couple of times with some great shots from distance and behind Hollie was left back Sharna Betteridge who always looks cool and composed even when under pressure. The second half saw Notts take advantage of the slope and the wind and within a couple of minutes of the restart they were 3-0 up when Amy Wainwright found room in the congested area before firing home from close range with her left. Amy added her second and the Magpies fourth after latching onto an intelligent pass from the tenacious Nicole Robinson, before beating her man and tucking the ball past the ‘keeper. Notts were now totally in control and when player of the match Lucy Wright was left unmarked in the area, she prodded the ball into the corner of the net with her left foot to score her first ever goal for the club and take the tally to five! The home side were now camped in the Bingham half and when the ball fell to full-back Erin Gale on the edge of the box she strode forwards before turning inside onto her left and slotting the ball into the far corner. Heather Briggs was enjoying the freedom that the free flowing football was now providing and was unlucky not to score with a couple of efforts. The final goal was scored by Elizabeth Harris, who cut in from the right and fired a low, left foot drive into the net.  Player of the match Lucy Wright

You can't win 'em all... Notts County under 12s were back playing 7-aside and on the small pitch which didn’t suit them as they played Calverton in the FA Shield. County Spent 50 mins not only camped in the opposition's half, but camped in their penalty area, but this was not enough for the U12's as they were beaten 2-1 by a brave Calverton side who defended well along with a keeper on the top of her game. County’s goal from Heather Briggs and Player of the match was awarded to Amy Wainwright
